So you're out adventuring, cracking skulls, raiding, pillaging and the like. Along the way you notice that these aren't risk free activities and you've been sustaining Wounds. Suddenly you find yourself being absolutely brutalized by some beast and you're powerless to do anything about it! If only you had returned to the Tavern earlier to sell your Loot and bank that sweet, sweet Gold! Oh the HORROR!

The foul beast drops your mangled corpse to the ground and steals all of your hard earned, ill gotten, gains! The sheer nerve! Congratulations on your untimely, unfortunate, and probably providential Death! You return to the Tavern in shame with nothing but that wretched XP Debt. If you're a Normal or an Immortal Character consider yourself lucky. Hardcore Characters get dragged off to the afterlife!

Normal, Immortal, and Limited Characters do not loose any banked Gold, equipment, or Advantages.

A Hardcore Character meeting their end..

What To Do About It

Instead of crying into your beer at the Tavern like a total wuss...

there are some things you can do to delay the inevitable and soften the blow of XP Debt. Normal Characters and Immortal Characters can purchase one of three Death Ward Rings from the Shady Dealer.

These rings reduce XP Debt by a set percentage.

Skills: Raising your wound count and healing abilities is also a sure way of avoiding death...

  • Max Wounds: Levels 1-5 grant one additional wound per level. (Normal and Immortal Characters.)
  • Immortal Toughness: Additional Wounds level 1-10
  • Immortal rejuvenation: Increased chance per level to heal while exploring.

Immortal Powers:

Reaper

Reaper is an Immortal Power that takes 10% of all XP earned in combat and saves it in a special account that can be gambled. You can "Taunt the Reaper". The entire purpose of this power is to either avoid XP Debt by paying it all off or by avoiding it all together.

Rapid Regeneration

Rapid Regeneration is a ridiculously powerful Immortal Power that will keep you fighting for a very long time. Especially if your wound count is high and your healing abilitiesare strong. (Path or Skills or both.)

The combination of Rapid Regeneration and having high AR/DR you will be able to avoid dying some of the time.
